PAC MEETINGS

are regularly held the second Wednesday of the Month at 6:30 in the Library.
Child minding is available.

LENDING LIBRARY

Carmi PAC has a lending library for parents (run on the honour system) with about 200 books as well as photocopied math sheets, theme colouring, history, Canadian facts etc. for parents and kids to take. PAC's library of reference books is also housed there.  We have hosted a few BCTF seminars so the worksheets from those are also available.  Our PAC library is also the place to get your sign up forms for fun lunch etc.

We have a wonderful collection of resources.  Have you been in the PAC office to check it out yet?!  We post all the magazines, newsletters and handbooks that are available to us.  There is a very wide range of information for parents and kids, not to mention the great books and homework/colouring sheets. We want EVERYONE to feel free to visit and borrow items at ANY time.

THANK YOU for taking time to visit our PAC website. As with the school website and newsletter this is our best way of keeping you informed of what your PAC is involved in.  If you have questions or ideas please speak to one of us and COME TO A MEETING…
NEXT PAC MEETING Tuesday, June 10th, 2008
Playground Notes
Remember kids, you are responsible for all the toys you bring to school.  Make sure you have your names marked on everything.  I have noticed some expensive things like cell phones, game boys and walkmans on the playground.  I know they are cool but do you really need them at school?  If you ride your bike MAKE SURE you have a lock for it!
Also remember our school rules…The intermediate students have the Adventure Playground at recess and the primary students have it at noon.  Soccer fields are for grades 3-5 only.  Students are NOT allowed on top of the soccer posts.  These rules are for our safety so that everyone can enjoy the playground.   HAVE FUN and PLAY SAFE
CARMI PAC  We are a group of parents whose main concern is the same as yours…THE KIDS. If you come to a meeting you can sit quietly and listen or you can jump in with ideas.  We will try not to scare you and we promise… we DO NOT ‘volunteer’ people to do anything they don’t want to do!!  We do supply coffee and goodies and we usually have a door prize! Sounds like fun, eh?!   It is!!

Hello Carmi Families,

It’s hard to believe its June already!!  This is our last newsletter of the year and it includes some important information so please take a minute to read it.

The MOST important news is that PAC is again giving summer school bursaries to lucky applicants!  The way it works is if a student of Carmi is interested in taking a summer course or camp they can apply to PAC for a bursary to help with the cost.  We will sponsor any type of camp or course offered by a recognized organization.  The children must write a short letter stating the course they wish to participate in and the cost.  They should also say why they want to take the course.  We will then draw the names of applicants from a hat until the total costs meet our budgeted amount.  These letters must be submitted to the PAC by Friday June 13th.  The draw will be done then so no late applications will be accepted.  Good Luck!

The second exciting news is that the Carmi Yearbook is a GO.   It is in pre-production now and will be ready for year end.  Our wonderful dad who is coordinating says there is still time to add your favourite picture!  If you have a great shot of Carmi life please call Cal Adams at 488-8019…TODAY!  As this is our last newsletter PAC would like to take this opportunity to thank Cal for the idea of the yearbook and for coordinating the project.  MANY THANKS to those families and businesses that were able to donate funds to make this all happen!

PAC would like to thank our wonderful volunteers that help out all year with all kinds of projects!  We are a community and it is wonderful to have parents and family members involved in our activities!  Our children are the winners when we are a part of their school experience.  We thank you for supporting our fundraising as well!  When you order fun lunch and when you bake for our bake sales you are contributing to the success of our PAC and making it possible for us to fund many of the special events the students so enjoy!  Don’t forget the volunteer tea on June 12th.

The last call out for volunteers is for the Father’s Day Craft on June 10th.  It is on Tuesday instead of the Friday due to some conflicting schedules.  We need volunteers for the entire day but you can come for any amount of time.  Please sign up in the PAC room as soon as possible.

There is a new program being initiated in BC schools regarding having a ‘school garden’.  It would be coordinated and run mostly by volunteers so we are wondering who might be interested.  It will not be started until next year but if you know you would like to be involved please let us know now.

There will not be another Scholastic Book order this year.  The last order took so long to come in we are concerned that any new orders might not be delivered before year end.  Thanks to our coordinators Sherri Moore and Karine Noe-Vack.  Look for a surprise soon for all our enthusiastic lovers of reading!

We are sorry to say the Carmi PAC website will be discontinued at the end of June.  Unfortunately there has been no one come forward to take over the job of updating the site.  We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Nicola Finch who has been facilitating the site since it’s inception in 2003!!  It is an amazing tool for parent information and is really not much work….maybe it’s something you would like to take on?  You do it totally from home (Nicola lives on a farm outside Williams Lake).  We are in the age of the internet….don’t let Carmi fall back into the Middle Ages.

Our last PAC meeting is Tuesday, June 10th; we will be holding elections at that time.  We have some people willing to take Executive positions but there is still time for you to nominate yourself!  We do need a DPAC Representative and a new School Planning Council which will be decided on in September.
